Hello Pauline(s), Daryl and all,

I agree Daryl, having no budget is a pain, but it does make for greater inventivenss and leads to forming relationships where mutual exchange of skills and knowledge can be beneficial.

Then, you know me, always banging on about not reinventing the wheelsmile

One thing that is more and more apparent to me is the scale of innovation, skills and knowledge in our sector as compared with higher education. I'm currently doing an undergraduate subject (a subject to fill a gap in my knowledge about writing), and the teacher isn't. That is, the teacher is AWOL.

She appears to ask a question, which is dutifully answered by the students and that's where it ends. I've decided that when I'm finished I will write a critique of all the things not to do when running an online subject. Being on the student side is a very good thing to do, every now and then. It reminds me that teaching online is a lot harder than it seems... best..janet

Hi Pauline
Wiki's are something I need to get into it's one area I have not done a lot with. It is good to try different technologies to find what best suites your needs. Sometimes those of us who work in areas where there are little or no budgets have to think laterally and cobble together a number of technologies to make our elearning work.

Cheers

Hi Daryl

Not using Studyzone this time.  We have used it a little bit before.  This time we are trying a Wikispaces WIKI as a type of LMS.  Slightly different approach but still experimenting.  We are also using an Elluminate classroom which the students are taking to quite well.

Thanks for the link to your delicious account.  I will have a look.  And thanks also for your offer of assistance.

Pauline

It is great isn't it.  And yes I agree it would be good for the Oral History Vols as well.  I have posted it on the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Wiki

Pauline, Thank you for passing this on. I am sure it would work with our Oral History volunteers with  training etc. Nearly all the volunteers have use of a computer at home. It has given me something else to think about. Bye Pauline L

Hi Pauline
I am glad you enjoyed the video and I hope it will inspire your TAA students to dip their toes into the digital waters. I love the blended learning approach but yes technology does throw up road blocks or challanges both for the students and tutors.

Are you using Studyzone for your delivery? Would be interested to know how and what tecnologies you are using for the TAA class. I have also created a Delicious account and posted links to tech stuff and articles I have found interesting.

Anyway there are a few of us floating around here on Studyzone so if you run up against any road blocks just fire of the questions here and we should between us be able to help smile

Cheers
Daryl

Hi Daryl, I love this video.  Thanks so much for alerting me to it.  I have been looking for ages for something to embed on our WIKI to encourage our TAA class and show the benefits of Technology in learning.  This is exactly what I was looking for.

We are using a blended delivery model for our TAA class and have obtained funding from the E-learning Innovations project to expand and modify this model.  It is quite a challenge and we are encountering the usual barriers that most seem to encounter when trying to embed e-learning.  Reluctance, fear, time constraints etc.

Anyway thanks again for the video.
